Shelter and Outreach for Women
Empowering Communication is an 8-week trauma-informed group program designed to support women in rebuilding healthy communication after experiences of abuse or unhealthy relationships. This program offers practical tools and guided support to help participants express their needs clearly, set boundaries confidently, and navigate conflict safely.
Experiences of abuse can deeply impact how we communicate — affecting confidence, boundary-setting, emotional regulation, and self-advocacy. Empowering Communication creates a safe and structured space where women can gently explore these patterns while developing healthier ways of relating to themselves and others.
Through guided discussion, practical exercises, and real-life scenarios, participants learn how trauma can influence communication styles and how to respond with clarity rather than react from stress or fear.
The program focuses on:
Assertiveness skills
Boundary-setting strategies
Conflict navigation tools
Emotional trigger awareness
Safe self-advocacy techniques
Building a personal “Conflict Toolkit”
Participants often leave the program with:
Greater confidence in expressing needs and opinions
Stronger, clearer personal boundaries
Tools to manage emotional triggers in difficult conversations
Improved communication in personal, family, and workplace relationships
Increased self-trust and sense of agency
This program emphasizes growth — not perfection — and supports participants in building skills at their own pace.
