Shelter and Outreach for Women
Inspector Erin Hanlon began her career with the Toronto Police Service 22 years ago at the age of 20. Throughout her distinguished service, she has been a trailblazer and mentor to both female and male officers, setting a standard of leadership, integrity, and professionalism. She has held positions in several prestigious units across the Service, consistently demonstrating excellence and dedication. Early in her career, Inspector Hanlon secured a position with the Toronto Drug Squad, where she was one of only a few women serving in the unit. She distinguished herself through her leadership abilities and investigative skill, ultimately advancing to lead her own team. Following her promotion to Sergeant, she was appointed to 51 Division’s Major Crime Unit, where she led complex investigations that resulted in significant seizures of firearms and drugs, while also addressing the needs of vulnerable communities in Toronto’s downtown core.
Her exemplary work as a supervisor led to her promotion to Detective Sergeant, during which she served in Professional Standards. In this role, she was instrumental in ensuring both internal and external accountability across the Service. She later assumed command of the Human Trafficking Unit, where she led multiple teams in the arrest of violent offenders, managed trials through to conviction, and worked closely with vulnerable victims and survivors to ensure their safety and support their path to recovery.
