Shelter and Outreach for Women
Mike Schreiner, Leader of the Ontario Green Party and MPP for Guelph, was the first
Green MPP elected to the Ontario Legislature in 2018. He was reelected in 2022 and
2025.
Growing up on a farm, Mike was instilled with a passion for protecting the people and
places he loves. As the Leader of the Ontario Greens since 2009, Mike’s constituents
recognize him as a champion for affordable housing, local food and farming, stronger
public services and bold climate action.
At Queen’s Park, Mike works across party lines to crack down on corporate greed and
advocate for affordable homes and communities, better public services and protections
for Ontario’s farmland and natural spaces.
He has introduced bills that put everyday people over corporate profits and protect the
jobs and industries that drive our economy.
This includes a bill to stop subsidizing oil and gas companies and another to legalize more kinds of homes in existing neighbourhoods.
Mike passed Ontario’s first Green law in 2019, which protects electric vehicle drivers by
making it illegal to block EV charging stations.
Prior to entering politics, Mike was a successful entrepreneur, small business owner and
early advocate of the local food movement. He founded multiple initiatives including
Local Food Plus, WOW Foods and EarthDance Organics to connect sustainable
farmers with Ontario households.
Mike lives in Guelph with his wife Sandy. They have two daughters.
