Women’s Habitat of Etobicoke is honoured to have Shoppers Drug Mart as a partner in our mission to provide shelter and support services to women and children who are survivors of violence. Women’s Habitat is the proud recipient of the Shoppers Drug Mart Growing Women’s Health Campaign. This annual campaign raised over $29 million since 2002, with 100% of all proceeds benefitting women’s health initiatives. Last year, the campaign raised a total of $3.1 million for women’s health in just 4 weeks!
Shoppers Drug Mart recognizes the direct impact violence has on the physical and mental health of women. They understand the strong association between trauma, violence and mental health and are committed to expanding women’s and young girls’ services that promote healing, education and safety.
Last year, Women’s Habitat received $27,962.00 thanks to the support of twelve Shoppers locations in Etobicoke, Toronto and Mississauga. This year, eleven Shoppers locations have selected Women’s Habitat as the recipient of their Growing Women’s Health Campaign, including a new Shoppers Location in Bloor West Village (2223 Bloor Street West).
These partnerships are possible thanks to the leadership of Ian Stewart, pharmacist owner the Six Points Plaza Shoppers at 5230 Dundas Street West. Ian has championed our cause for many years and promoted our work in the community.
The contributions from this campaign will directly impact the women and children who access our shelter and outreach services.
Our emergency shelter provides temporary housing to women and children who made the brave decision to leave abuse and re-build their lives. During their stay, they receive counselling and the support they need to create their own path. All their basic needs are covered.
The supports provided at our Outreach Centre at 140 Islington Avenue include counselling, group programming, parenting programming, housing support services and programs specifically designed for teen girls. We also provide life skills in the areas of nutrition, sexual health, stress management and harm reduction.
From September 10th to October 7th support the Growing Women’s Health Campaign when shopping at your local Shoppers Drug Mart store! You can participate by purchasing an icon for $1, $5, $10 or $50 dollars.
