About Us

Women’s Habitat is a leading organization dedicated to ending gender-based violence and supporting women, children and youth to live safely, independently, and with dignity.

For over 45 years, we have provided transformational , life-saving services. Our work spans emergency shelter, outreach programs, and long-term support services designed to help clients rebuild their lives on their own autonomy.

We believe that the movement to end gender-based violence cannot rely solely on charity or crisis response. It demands strategic, long-term investment in prevention, education, systems change, and survivor-led innovation. As an organization providing downstream services, we recognize that achieving safety, equity, and justice requires more than individual transformation. It demands systemic change. Our vision of prevention is not only about stopping violence before it happens, but about creating conditions where equality and safety can thrive, where all people, regardless of gender, identity, or circumstance, can live free from violence and free to imagine their own future.

What We Do

Women’s Habitat offers a continuum of care that supports women and children at every stage of their journey:

Emergency Shelter: A safe, confidential space for women and children fleeing violence

Outreach & Counselling: Individual and group-based support focused on healing, safety planning, and connection

Children & Youth Programs: Specialized programming that supports emotional development and breaks cycles of violence

Housing & Life Skills Support: Specialized programming that supports emotional development and breaks cycles of violence

Our Approach

We believe that safety is just the beginning. True change happens when women have access to opportunities, resources, and support systems that allow them to thrive.

Our work is grounded in:

  • Survivor-centred care
  • Equity and inclusion
  • Prevention and education
  • Community collaboration

We are committed to not only responding to violence, but preventing it—by addressing the systemic barriers that keep women vulnerable.
