Programs for Boys

Trauma-Informed Support for Healing, Stability, and Empowerment

At Women’s Habitat of Etobicoke, our programs for women are designed to support healing after violence, rebuild stability, and promote long-term independence. All services are free, confidential, and grounded in trauma-informed care.We recognize that every woman’s journey is different. Our programs centre choice, dignity, and empowerment.

Deepening Our Healing Approach: From Trauma-Informed to Trauma-Specific

While trauma-informed practice remains a cornerstone of our work, we have recognized a growing need for trauma-specific supports. Many survivors of intimate partner violence face inaccessible costs of therapy in the community, leaving them without essential healing pathways. In response, we are embedding some elements of trauma-specific interventions to our programming, ensuring that every participant has access to safe, skilled, and consistent therapeutic engagement. This evolution strengthens our continuum of support, addressing not just the symptoms of trauma, but its roots.

Our Approach

  • Men and boys impacted by violence — whether directly or indirectly — often carry unspoken stress, confusion, and pressure around identity and masculinity. Our programs:
  • Encourage emotional literacy and self-reflection
  • Challenge harmful social norms without judgment
  • Promote accountability alongside compassion
  • Support healthy relationships and violence prevention
  • Participation is voluntary and paced according to each individual’s comfort and readiness.

B.O.Y. (Because Of You)

B.O.Y. is an interactive and creative group program designed for boys aged 12–15. The program supports participants in understanding their emotions, behaviours, and choices while developing confidence and healthy concepts of masculinity.

Focus areas include:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Personal responsibility
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Respectful relationships
