Trauma-Informed Support for Women, Girls, and Boys

At Women’s Habitat of Etobicoke, we offer free, trauma-informed outreach programs that support healing, emotional well-being, skill-building, and long-term stability for women, children, youth, and families impacted by violence.

Our Outreach Centre, located in South Etobicoke at 140 Islington Avenue, provides a welcoming and confidential space where individuals can access support outside of shelter. You do not need to be staying in shelter to participate in our programs or services.

Empowering Voices

A trauma-informed group program supporting women in rebuilding identity, reclaiming voice, and restoring personal strength after experiences of violence. Participants engage in reflection, discussion, and community connection in a safe and supportive space.

Empowering Communication

A healing and skill-building program focused on how trauma affects communication. Participants learn tools to manage emotional triggers, build boundaries, practice safe negotiation, and develop a personal “conflict toolkit.”

Mindful Parenting

Designed for mothers and caregivers of children eight and under, this program supports positive parenting strategies, emotional regulation, and healthy parent-child relationships — especially within the context of trauma and stress.

Tending Trauma

Tending to Trauma is a supportive 10 week group program designed for survivors of intimate partner violence who are ready to deepen their healing in community. Together, we’ll explore how trauma lives in the body, develop a personalized toolkit for nervous system care, and gently work toward reclaiming the body as a source of safety, power, wisdom, and pleasure.

My Little Garden

A hands-on community workshop where participants create their own mini pot garden of vegetables and herbs to take home. Learn simple planting techniques, explore how to use fresh ingredients in everyday meals, and enjoy a relaxing, creative experience in a supportive group setting.

Girlz Space

A free, welcoming after-school program for girls in Grades 6–8. Girlz Space offers a safe environment where participants can connect, cook, create, and build confidence through supportive group activities.

Girlfriends

A weekly after-school program for girls in high school. Participants cook together, socialize, and engage in meaningful conversations in a space that promotes belonging, self-expression, and emotional safety.

B.O.Y. (Because Of You)

An interactive and creative program for boys aged 12–15 that supports emotional awareness, confidence, accountability, and healthy masculinity in a non-judgmental, trauma-informed setting.

Unmasked

A transformative program that helps boys and young men unpack harmful stereotypes, online influences, and social pressures. Participants explore emotional honesty, accountability, healthy relationships, and gender-based violence prevention.

Housing Readiness

A practical support program focused on helping participants move toward stable housing. Services include: Housing search support, Rent-Geared-to-Income guidance, Housing applications, Rent Bank referrals, Tenant rights education, Eviction prevention.

Women Talk

A safe and empowering space where women come together for enriching conversation, peer connection, and skill development that supports sustainable livelihoods and overall well-being.

Tweens

A group program for children aged 9–12 focused on self-esteem, social skills, and emotional development through interactive learning and guided activities.
