Interested in contributing some valuable time to an important cause? Apply to our Board of Directors here and play an important part in our culture of philanthropy, and our mission to address violence against women and children in our community.
What does the board do?
The Women’s Habitat Board of Directors is responsible for oversight and governance of the organization. The board holds ultimate accountability for the success and sustainability of the organization.
Supporting our mission and values, the Board participates in policy making, overseeing and approving financial and budget structures, organizational strategic planning, stewardship and evaluation of outcomes. The Board hires, supervises and supports the Executive Director to whom the responsibility for executive management of Women’s Habitat is delegated.
Directors make personal commitments to Women’s Habitat of time, effort, and financial support to the best of their ability; they prepare for, attend and fully participate in all board meetings.
Directors participate in two or more Committees of the board, and volunteer to chair a Committee after gaining confident knowledge in its mandate and the work expected and are knowledgeable of the board’s legal and fiduciary obligations and ensures they are met.
How much time does it take?
While time varies depending on priorities, the full Board meets quarterly for 2 hours, (typically held on the fourth Monday every quarter, from 5-7pm ET). Board Committee meetings are also quarterly and it averages approximately 1-2 hours per quarter.
Committee Chairs spend some time pre-meeting to discuss agenda items or post-meetings to discuss follow-up steps. There is also the commitment to sit on a minimum of 2 Board Committees, and contribute to/participate in philanthropic activities.
